The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) is excited to celebrate the late scholar and Yale University social ecologist Stephen R. Kellert’s legacy with the 2018 Biophilic Design Award at this year’s Greenbuild Expo in Chicago.

The winner will be announced from the five outstanding projects selected by the jury. Each project highlights how rapidly biophilic design has entered architectural practice while also remaining true to its evolutionary origins focused on human flourishing in natural environments. These projects, as a group, show an intentional and systematic application of the biophilic design principles espoused by Steve most notably in his recent book “Nature by Design.”  Yet each project has used the principles in different ways to achieve building habitats that support human health and well being.

The five outstanding finalists are:

Dixon Water Foundation Betty & Clint Josey Pavilion

Environmental Learning Center / Science + Math Institute

The Spheres

VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre

1212 Bordeaux
